Penn State DuBois men's basketball head coach Dylan Howard has announced the 2016 recruiting class. The team will include 13 new players to preseason this fall. The new faces will join nine returners from last season’s team that went 15-10 overall and earned the No. 5 seed in the PSUAC playoffs.
The Penn State DuBois wrestlers continued their successful roll through the postseason, claiming the NCWA Mid-East Qualifier team championship, hosted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) on Saturday afternoon. Leading the way for Coach Dave Hoare’s wrestlers were champions Brett Himes (125), Garrett Brown (133), Ty Haines (149) and Bryce Hanley (285).
A young, local talent has been selected to lead the newest athletic team to be added to the Penn State DuBois athletics program. Meagan Thomas, a DuBois Central Catholic graduate, will be the head softball coach. The team is set to start play in September 2016. Thomas will start her work in January to recruit prospective student-athletes to campus and build relationships with the current students at Penn State DuBois who may want to play on the team.
Penn State DuBois cross-country runner Juliann Boddorf claimed the title of Conference Champion at the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Championship, held Oct. 17 on the golf course at Penn State's University Park campus.
The Penn State DuBois baseball team made a strong showing in six appearances during its fall ball season, ending with a 3-3 record. This is the first time Penn State DuBois has fielded a baseball team since the early 1990s when the program was cut due to budgetary reasons.
Two Lady Lion runners from Penn State DuBois competed in the third annual Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6k in Pittsburgh on Oct. 4. Representing Penn State DuBois in the race were runners Juliann Boddorf and Carley Boice. The unique 4.1-mile race pays homage to Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux while helping to raise money for the Mario Lemieux and Pittsburgh Penguins foundations.
Penn State DuBois was the top finishing Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) team at the United States Collegiate Athletics Association (USCAA) National Wrestling Invitational at Rec Hall in State College on Sunday. DuBois outdistanced Mont Alto by 11.5 points (130 to 120.5). Both teams wrestled extremely well scoring points in 9 of the 11 weight classes. West Virginia Tech captured the USCAA team championship with 157.5 points. WVU Tech was carried to the championship with six individual champions and two third place finishers.
Tom Calliari of Brockway has been named head coach for the newly resurrected baseball team at Penn State DuBois. Baseball has not been offered as an athletic option for students at the campus in decades, so Calliari also is responsible for building a new program from the ground up, with his first team slated to play in the spring of 2016.
